March 16, 2024 - Bruce first flight in 1-26 Glider

Loyal readers will recall I helped Bruce acquire his 1-26 glider up in Pennsylvania back in January.  Bruce got it down to Florida, and today he was flying it for the first time!  Here the glider is being towed out to the runway.

Bruce is ready to go!

The ground crew makes preparations for flight.

Bruce took off without incident.  While he was thermalling under a big cloud, I walked around and took some pics.  The glider hangar is at right.

The mighty Pawnee tow-plane.  Actually, it's a Piper PA-25,  originally produced as an agricultural aircraft between 1959 and 1981.  Over 5,000 were built.

Now I'm in the giant hangar where Bruce keeps his Champ, sitting there on the left.

The other side of the massive hangar.

A nice-looking Starduster Too.  This one was built in 1979.  It's a homebuilt.  You can buy the plans from Aircraft Spruce.  The airplane is designed to plus 6 or minus 6 G loading. It was not intended for use in aerobatic competition, but it can perform basic aerobatics.

Now in the glider hangar.  It's unusual to see aviation art on a glider but here you go.

And there's more!

If I were to buy a serious glass ship, this is the one I'd want:  the Schleicher ASW-27.  48 to 1 glide ration.  That's what I'm talking about.
